What will I learn from this GCSE?
● Business in the Real World: The types and purpose of a business and
business planning and growth.
● Influences on a Business: The importance of external influences such as
economic issues, globalisation, technology, ethics, competition and the
law.
● Human Resources: The importance of recruitment, motivation and
training and organisational structure in a business.
● Business Operations: The production of goods and the provision of
services including production methods, procurement, stock management
and customer service
● Marketing: The purpose of marketing, its role within business and how it
influences business activity using price, product, place and promotion as
well as market research.
● Finance: The financial aspects of business, the costs involved, sources of
finance, how businesses make a profit and how they measure success.
Includes Cash Flow and Profit and Loss.
Two 1hr 45 minute examinations (2 x 50% = 100%) at the end of Year 11.
● Influences of operations and human resource management on business
activity (50%)
● Influences of marketing and finance on business activity (50%)

● Useful if you are considering working in, for example, management,
marketing, finance or human resources or in any commercial
organisation.
With over 50% of the examined content being in the form of longer answer
questions,
the skills of analysis and evaluation are crucial. Students will need to be
comfortable expressing their ideas in a detailed written format and will need to
make detailed conclusions based on the data provided.
Students will need to use a range of mathematical techniques appropriate to GCSE
in Business. They will be required to apply these skills to relevant business
contexts for calculation (percentages; percentage changes; averages; revenue, costs
and profits; profit margins) and interpretation (graphs and charts; profitability
ratios; financial data, including profit and loss, average rate of return and cash flow
forecasts; marketing data) purposes.
