This course is made up of 60% theory, 30% practical and 10% written analysis. The
theory side of the course covers everything from Sports Psychology to Applied
Anatomy and Physiology. Whilst during the practical section of the course you have
to be assessed in three different sports which are both team sports and individual
sports. A written piece of coursework which uses all learned theoretical based
knowledge to help analyse and evaluate strengths and weaknesses in their chosen
sport is also completed as part of the course.

Non-examined assessment: internally marked and externally moderated (40% of the
qualification) 100 marks
● Skills during individual and team activities ● General performance skills in 3
activities
(1 must be a team and one must be an individual sport)
● Written analysis and evaluation of performance to bring about improvement in one
activity.
Written examinations are non-tiered and will be taken in Summer 2025
Non examined assessment is continuous throughout the course.

Performance in 3 sports is on-going over the 2 years with an external moderation
around Easter of Year 11.
The written coursework is completed during the Autumn Term of Year 11 (Oct/Nov)
Careers
Information
As well as being the ideal preparation for the A Level Physical Education course, GCSE
Physical Education allows for progression to related vocational qualifications, such as
BTEC Firsts and Nationals in Sport or Sport and Exercise Sciences. The course
develops the transferable skills and key skills that employers are looking for and can
lead to a wide variety of employment opportunities. This can include further training
in areas such as Sports Psychology, Sports Science, Physiotherapy, PE teaching,
recreational management, leisure activities, coaching, officiating, the fitness industry,
becoming a Personal Trainer, the armed forces and the Civil Service.
