Laptops for Digital Learning
At Robert May’s School we have a commitment to preparing our students for life after
Robert May’s. Part of this is developing their digital literacy skills so that they can
access the world of work. In light of this we have a 1:1 devices policy for our students.
This means that Parents/Carers will purchase a laptop for their child, through a school
based scheme, for use in school. It is important that these devices are similar and
compatible with safeguarding regulations so once your child has been accepted into
Robert May’s School, we will communicate the system of purchase for you. The cost of
the device is approximately £600 and this can be purchased over a 30 month period or
as an outright one-off payment.
The use of laptop devices in school by every child has huge benefits by:
•
•
•
Providing tools to support teachers in effectively checking the progress of students inside
and outside of lessons so that teaching can be efficiently adapted
Enabling more teaching and support targeted to individual learning needs
Allowing students to access presentations, examples and explanations multiple times
• Providing access to far greater resources
• Allowing teachers to give feedback on students’ work online and respond
quickly
• Improving the continuity of learning between school and home
• Giving students the opportunity to collaborate together on projects
through shared documents
Respect - Motivate - Support
